How to transfer my Domain away from GoDaddy

Before attempting to transfer a domain away from GoDaddy, you must complete the following steps.

Important

  • There is a 60 days period after registering a domain name during which you will be unable to transfer domain registration. This is not a Bluechipspace specific rule, but rather a rule implemented by ICANN, the organization that governs domain registrations. For more information, please review ICANN's Policy on Transfer of Registrations between Registrars.
  • When the Registrant WHOIS email info on a domain is updated an email is sent to both the existing email and the new email address for the Registrant contact. This is due to ICANN's new Change of Registrant Policy.

Step 1: Update Contact Information for Domain

The contact information for your domain needs to be up-to-date so that the Domain EPP/Authorization Code can be emailed to you. To update your contact information:

Changing the Organization name or the First name and Last name for the registrant contact, if an organization isn't the legal registrant for the domain name, will mean that you are unable to transfer the domain for a 60-days period.

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. Under Domains, click Manage of the domain name you wish to transfer.
  3. Navigate to Contact Information, and then click Edit.
  4. Review and/or update the contact information for accuracy.
    • If the contact details for the different account types are different, uncheck the Use for all contact types, and then review section type for any errors.
  5. Click Save when your changes are complete.

Step 2: Remove Privacy Protection from the Domain

If privacy protection is enabled on the domain name when the transfer request is initiated, the domain transfer will automatically fail. All WHOIS information must be publicly visible in order for the transfer to go through successfully.

Privacy protection can be removed by clicking Remove privacy at the bottom of the Contact Information section, and then confirming that privacy should be removed from the domain.

Step 3: Unlock the Domain

If the domain name is locked, the transfer request will automatically fail as the domain must be unlocked prior to initiating the transfer. To unlock the domain:

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. Under Domains, click Manage of the domain name you wish transfer.
  3. Scroll down to Additional Settings, and then click Edit next to Domain lock.
  4. Set the toggle to off. It will take a few moments for the update to show.

Step 4: Request EPP/Authorization Code

Most domain registrars require an EPP/authorization or Domain Secret code in order to transfer a domain name. This provides an extra layer of security and protects against unauthorized transfers. To request an EPP/authorization code:

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. Under Domains, click Manage of the domain name you wish transfer.
  3. Scroll down to Additional Settings, and then click Edit next to Domain lock.
  4. Navigate to the bottom, then click on Get authorization code.
  5. The authorization code will then be sent to the domain's Administrator email address on file.

Step 5: Submit Domain Name Transfer request to Bluechipspace

Once all of the above steps have been completed, you should be ready to transfer your domain name to Bluechipspace.

  1. Go to the Bluechipspace domain transfer form at manage.bluechipspace.com/cart.php?a=add&domain=transfer
  2. Enter your domain name in the Domain Name field.

Some domain name extension ends something other than .com, .net, .org, .info or .biz, you may not be able to use the transfer form to process your order. You will need to contact our Billing department via Pre-sales questions manage.bluechipspace.com/contact.php or Live Chat with your domain name and authorization code so we can arrange payment.

  3. Click Transfer.
  4. Review the steps on the page to ensure the domain name is unlocked and privacy protection is disabled.
  5. Enter the EPP/authorization code you received from GoDaddy.
  6. Click Add to Cart
  7. Follows steps by step, Click Continue.
  8. Click Checkout.
  9. If you are existing customer login with your credentials or if you are new signup to Purchase.

Step 6: Approve the Transfer of the Domain Name to Bluechipspace

After a few hours, you should receive an email from GoDaddy confirming that your domain transfer request was received. This is a typical security measure. You will need to approve the transfer in your GoDaddy control panel; otherwise, your transfer may take up to 7 days to complete.

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. At the top of the page, hover over the Hi, Customer (your name) drop-down menu and click Visit My Account.
  3. Next to Domains, click Launch.
  4. From the top, green menu bar, click Domains > Transfers.
  5. Select the check box next to your transferred domain, and click the Accept/Decline button in the top toolbar.
  6. Choose Accept, and click OK.
  7. You will receive an email from Bluechipspace once the transfer is complete. If you have not heard from Bluechipspace after seven (7) days, you may contact us to inquire about your transfer status.
